Public Record Requests

Role of the Human Resources Department: The Human Resources Department serves as the public information liaison between the school district and the community at large.

Submitting Requests: Requests for personnel and other public records may be made:

  • In person

  • Over the telephone

  • In writing

Fees for Copies of Public Records: Fees for copies of public records are prescribed by Florida State Statute, Section 119.07:

  • $0.15 per single-sided copy

  • $0.20 per double-sided copy

  • $1.00 per each page of a certified document

  • $5.00 per video or audio disc furnished by the district

Inspection of Records:

  • Records may be inspected on site under reasonable conditions during normal office hours.

  • Inspection must be supervised by the custodian of the records or their designee.

Service Charge for Extensive Requests: If the request requires extensive use of information technology or clerical/supervisory assistance, a service charge will be imposed. "Extensive" is defined as requiring more than 15 minutes to:

  • Identify

  • Locate

  • Compile

  • Review

  • Copy

  • Re-file the requested record

The service charge is calculated to the nearest quarter hour exceeding 15 minutes, based on the current rate of pay of the District employee(s) performing these services. (LCS Policy 3.51)

Preparation Time for Large Records: Due to the size of some records, please allow at least 48 hours for preparation.

Email Addresses as Public Records: Under Florida law, email addresses are public records. To avoid your email address being released in response to a public records request, do not send official business emails to the District or its employees. Instead, contact the District or individual employees by phone or in writing.

Payments for Public Record Requests 

All requests for personnel files and other public records are subject to the Florida State Statute Chapter 119.
